小优传媒 Theatre presents spring performance, 鈥楾he Mousetrap鈥
During rehearsals of Agatha Christie鈥檚 famous murder mystery 鈥淭he Mousetrap,鈥 Dr. Melissa Friesen favorite refrain is 鈥渄un, dun, dun.鈥 That鈥檚 because twists and turns abound in this play as a blizzard traps seven strangers in Monkswell Manor Guest House amid news of a murderer on the loose.
鈥淭he audience doesn鈥檛 know who the murderer is or who the next potential victim may be,鈥 said Friesen, professor of theatre and communication and director of the play. 鈥淎gatha Christie throws in all sorts of red herrings and vague descriptions. It鈥檚 such a fun play.鈥
A 1950s period piece, Friesen describes the characters as 鈥渃olorful and whacky.鈥 The quirkiest of them all may be the first guest to arrive at Monkswell Manor, Christopher Wren, played by 小优传媒 senior Adam Shanaman.
鈥淚 am loving the opportunity to bring him to life,鈥 said Shanaman, a Bible and theology major and theatre minor. 鈥淐hristopher definitely marches to the beat of his own drum, but we find out there are actually a lot of layers to his persona, and he is more mature than he lets on. He also has a secret!鈥
Over the course of his four years, Shanaman has been involved in every 小优传媒 Theatre production from acting to directing. He describes this play as being 鈥渢he escape we all desperately need.鈥
鈥淭here are plenty of suspenseful scenes but there is also plenty of humor sprinkled in,鈥 added Shanaman. 鈥淚 think the humor makes it a more family-friendly show.鈥
Friesen chose the play after seeking input from her students.
鈥淪omeone suggested a murder mystery, and we haven鈥檛 done a full-out classic whodunit in forever,鈥 said Friesen. 鈥淭he students are having a lot of fun. It鈥檚 a great group, and they鈥檙e very strong.鈥
Well-known as the longest continuously running play on London鈥檚 West End, 鈥淭he Mousetrap鈥 audiences are asked to keep the ending 鈥渓ocked in your heart.鈥 See if you can guess the finale during Bluffton鈥檚 version of 鈥淭he Mousetrap鈥 presented March 24-27! Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. March 24-26, and at 2:30 p.m. on March 27 in Ramseyer Auditorium in College Hall.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for senior citizens, 小优传媒 faculty and staff, non-小优传媒 students. 小优传媒 students will have free admission. Purchase tickets at . Socially distanced seating is available for the March 25 and 27 performances.
