Cabaret for a Cause

Crossroads Crisis Center donation

小优传媒 recently held its ninth annual Cabaret for a Cause. The semi-formal event for undergraduates features student performances of songs from a wide genre of musical styles.

Each year a different organization is selected to receive the proceeds from ticket sales. This year, a donation of $1,200 was given to Crossroads Crisis Center in Lima, Ohio.

鈥淚 think Cabaret continues to be successful every year because it is a way for students to contribute to a cause without having to do a whole lot of work,鈥 said Taylor Lewis, a senior on the organizing committee. 鈥淪tudents get dressed up and enjoy a fun night full of entertainment and snacks for a small price, and all the proceeds go to a different cause each year. Seems like a pretty good deal to me!鈥

In the last eight years, the event has raised nearly $9,700. In previous years, funds were donated to Camp Invention, Mennonite Central Committee, Lima Rescue Mission, The Jamii Project, Community Mennonite Church of Chicago, Vs. Cancer, Open Arms, and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

This year鈥檚 event was organized by students including: Timothy Booth 鈥19, Emily Rush 鈥19, Kenny Beeker 鈥18, Taylor Lewis 鈥18, Amani Seaburn 鈥21, Hannah Conklin 鈥20 and Alicia Loch 鈥18.

More than 100 students, faculty and staff enjoyed performances by 20 acts ranging from pop covers to jazz standards.
