Staff accountant

POSITION SUMMARY
The staff accountant is responsible for general accounting processes at the university
to include, but not be limited to: gift processing, bank reconciliations, general
ledger journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations, financial and advancement
system maintenance, working with university personnel to ensure all invoices, requisitions
and purchase orders are recorded accurately and paid in a timely manner, and assisting
with the preparation of various financial reports and analyses. Serve as on-campus
point of contact and liaison with vendor partner for university finances.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Essential responsibilities:
- Processing of daily accounting transactions as outlined above, assisting with vendor invoice payments and general ledger system account maintenance, review budget variances and work with department managers to address items where necessary, work with the annual budget and audit processes and contribute to strong internal controls in the university business office.
- Processing of daily gifts, donations and pledges in applicable information systems with accuracy and timeliness.
- Utilize university information systems to run queries and produce reports for advancement, business office and athletics as well as external agencies and auditors as needed.
- Produce monthly advancement reports for VP and other staff members as required along with the annual pledge statements, tax statements and giving summaries.
- Responsible for upkeep and maintenance of alumni/donor database including but not limited to: contact information, important personal information and university information systems coding.
- Secondary responsibilities:
- Serve as the Matching Gift Coordinator for the matching gift program.
- Completes all other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to satisfactorily perform the essential responsibilities of this job.
- Minimum:
- Education/Certification: Associates degree
- Experience: Previous work experience of one to three years required and one to three years of experience in an accounting office setting.
- Skill/Abilities:
- Individual must have strong attention to detail and be able to provide excellent customer service.
- Organizational skills; good written and verbal communication skills, intermediate skills in the MS Office Suite, strong interpersonal skills and familiarity with business office practices.
- Preferred:
- Education/Certification: Bachelor鈥檚 degree in a related field.
- Experience: Previous work experience of 3-5 years.

COMPENSATION:
Commensurate with education and experience within the university pay scale.
